What is Sitemap?

According to Wikipedia The Sitemaps protocol allows a webmaster to inform search engines about URLs on a website that are available for crawling. A Sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs for a site. It allows webmasters to include additional information about each URL: when it was last updated, how often it changes, and how important it is in relation to other URLs in the site. This allows search engines to crawl the site more intelligently. Sitemaps are a URL inclusion protocol and complement robots.txt, a URL exclusion protocol.

    Thanks for useful post
Sir, I have a blog which has regularly many posts, I wanna ask you that which is better for using simple sitemap (sitemap.xml) or this sitemap (atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=501&max-results=500) for blogger which has more than 500 posts or much more (1000)?
    Thanks.

See if you have more than 1000 posts you have to manually add more than one feed links with max limit 500 as sitemap to index more than 1000 posts but in case of sitemap.xml you need to add only one link which is quite simple and you did not need to worry about to add link manually after each 500 posts moreover sitemap.xml is actually what we called a sitemap file.

    Its all your choice :)
